Fine-Apple

*Record Scratch* *Freeze Frame* You're probably wondering how I ended up in this situation.

Moments before this photo, I had just spent my last $4 buying 3 cake pops and a cupcake at the bake sale at the Habitat dodgeball tournament last year. It was a victory purchase, since our dodgeball team, comprised of the girls cross country team, had won our first game ever, against the cross country boys. Erin wanted to take a photo of me with my array of baked goods, but unfortunately, one of my cake pops decided to do a gravity check and fall right off of its stick at the exact moment that she took the photo. As evidenced by this photo, I decided that it was more worth saving the cake pop than trying to look decent for a photo.

Aside from it being funny and conveniently timed, I love this photo because it's very me. People always roast me for my weird facial expressions and unhealthy obsession with food. I think that no photo captures my essence better than one where I look visibly distraught over my cake pop.

This picture also brings back memories of one of my fondest high school memories. The cross country team participates in the dodgeball tournament every year, and it's one of my favorite nights. Since our throwing and catching skills are less than ideal, we typically aim to win the costume contest instead. This particular year, we decided to dress up as fruit. We spent hours crafting together the different pieces of our costumes before the tournament. I went as a pineapple, but other fruit costumes included a strawberry, watermelon, peach, and even grapes. I think we even surprised ourselves with how well the costumes turned out.

We didn't end up winning the costume contest that year, but we still had a lot of fun making them, and we were so excited to have won an actual dodgeball game that it didn't matter. This photo is just one of many that we took that night. I love to look back on the pictures from this year and the years before it, reminiscing in all of the memories I've made through the years. I usually hate dodgeball, but for this one night, it's my favorite thing in the world. And if anyone was wondering, I did end up successfully catching that cake pop before it hit the ground.

  1. Although I couldn't find your obsession with food that relatable, I enjoyed reading your blog. I liked how you took a specific moment and expanded upon it through a general stereotype people have about you.

  6. It's an honest photo, and I love sweet food too so I feel your concern. It's also super nice to see just how much there is behind this photo, as you get to really see the story worth a thousand words that the picture is telling. Everything about this radiates good vibes and I needed this honestly.

  9. I'm very sorry to here that you lost, but maybe you were the real winners you know.(?) It does seem like you had a lot of fun either way so that is good. I mean everything was good, this was good. But I think the part of this is the flash back sequence I truly felt amerced.
